As the holiday season rolls in, the gifting buzz is in the air! For vintage fashion lovers and those who care about sustainability (so anyone like us at Scarlet Destiny), there’s no better time to explore the world of pre-loved treasures. Vintage fashion offers an eco-friendly alternative to fast fashion—reducing waste by giving beautiful garments a second life. And let’s not forget the charm of owning a one-of-a-kind piece that you won’t find anywhere else!

Gifting vintage is more than just handing over a pretty package; it’s a meaningful gesture that shows thoughtfulness and care. From unearthing a unique item that matches your loved one’s style to making a sustainable choice for the planet, vintage gifting is a win-win. Whether you’re shopping for a timeless handbag, a retro jacket, or an exquisite accessory, it ensures you’re giving something truly special this season.

URL Vintage: Where To Shop?

For those of you ready to dive into the exciting world of vintage shopping, there are countless online platforms and independent sellers waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re a seasoned thrifter or a vintage newbie, these websites cater to all tastes and styles. Some specialise in curated collections, while others offer an expansive marketplace where you can hunt for treasures.

We’ll be sharing a few of our favourite sites where you can shop vintage online below, but no matter where you browse, it’s all about finding that one piece that speaks to you—or to the lucky recipient of your thoughtful gift.

  • eBay: A favourite among fashion editors, eBay's authenticity guarantee for sneakers, handbags, and watches provides shoppers with added confidence.
  • ASAP Vintage: This independent online shop is your go-to for anything vintage sportswear. And a perfect gifting destination for all the sports fanatics, as you might find some treasured sports tops here.
  • Hardly Ever Worn It (HEWI): This site specialises in pre-owned designer pieces that are waiting to find new homes. From bags to shoes, jewellery and clothing, this one is a designer’s finds only.
  • Black Label Vintage: This one's for you if you’re looking for something unique. Based in Sheffield, the store’s owner has been sourcing classic pieces for more than 20 years. Their selection is available to shop on eBay, Depop and Etsy!
  • Vestiaire Collective: With 25,000 pieces added daily, this is Europe's largest resale site for luxury fashion. Search for your favourite brands or specific pieces to avoid being overwhelmed with choices. Also, Vestiarie Collective are running the biggest anti-fast-fashion campaign of all with some of the most impactful visuals out there.

  • Beyond Retro: Beyond Retro is probably one of the best-known names in vintage clothing here in the UK. It started in 2002 as a warehouse-turned-retail store in east London, selling vintage items from across the world. Today it has stores in London, Brighton and Bristol as well as a number in Sweden. And online too.
  • Farfetch: This site has been integrating resale onto its platform since 2010, allowing shoppers to enjoy the same luxury experience whether shopping for new or pre-owned items.
  • Kokeshi Vintage Shop: If you love the Hawaiian vintage vibe, one of our favourite stores on Etsy is KokeshiVintageShop, which has been on the platform since 2017 and is based in California in the US.
  • Depop: Gen Z's favourite resale site is full of Y2K gems, from baby tees to Prada cheetah-print boots.
  • Ella Pop Shop: If you’re looking for modern vintage with a retro twist, this independent seller is your go-to. From party wear to statement shirts, Ella’s selection is hand curated and a real one-of-a-kind.
  • Thrift+: A social venture that sells your donated clothes and splits all profits equally between you and your nominated charity, while also boasting a huge selection of second hand items to buy.
  • Sellier Knightsbridge: If you're looking for pre-loved designer bags from luxury brands like Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès, Sellier is your go-to.
  • Voodoo Vixen: Another independent vintage seller, this one’s focus is on anything retro. Think 60s and 70s womenswear, you’ll find it here.
  • Retold: This site's collection spans from Burberry trench coats and '90s Max Mara, making it perfect for those with a more minimalist aesthetic.
  • Rokit: Another leading UK vintage clothing store, Rokit started in 1986 as a stall in London’s Camden Market. All items are handpicked, and, like Beyond Retro, the selection is endless.
  • 1stDibs: For those looking for fashion history pieces, 1stDibs is the go-to site. It's particularly popular among vintage dealers and collectors.
  • Vinted: This platform has seen a huge boom in the past couple of years and it seems as though everyone is selling and buying on Vinted. Although there is a chance you might find some one-of-a-kind designer treasure here, most of their selection is actually second-hand fast fashion items. So, if that’s what you’re looking for, this is your best option.

If this list is not enough and you’re looking for more, you can always download the In Good Company app – A London map-based app that will help you discover all the ethical and sustainable spots in the city – From shops to cafès and restaurants, your go-to for sustainable choices. If you're looking for curated vintage and second hand shops in London, check out In Good Company. Vintage gifting offers a beautiful way to show you care—blending sustainability, individuality, and style into one meaningful present. And if the idea of picking a specific piece feels too personal, don’t fret! Many vintage retailers offer gift vouchers too, letting your loved ones embark on their own vintage treasure hunt.

So, while big platforms like eBay or Vinted are excellent for exploring a wide range of options, don’t forget the charm of supporting independent sellers. We’ve listed quite a few in our list above, but if you have some hidden suggestion you’d like to send our way, please do as we’d love to expand on this list and help out a few extra independent sellers grow.

Wishing you all a very happy Indie shopping experience!

Love,

Scarlet Destiny Team X
