The Upcoming Metaverse Fashion Week

  • by Scarlet Destiny Admin

Fashion weeks are happening all around the world right now: New York, London, Milan, and more. But fashion week is not limited to the physical world, as recent announcements have excited fashion week go-ers and digital fashion lovers with the news of a Metaverse Fashion Week.

Virtual world platform Decantraland has revealed that between March 24th-27th, they will be hosting the first Metaverse Fashion Week. The digital world allows anyone from any location to view the fashion shows with no need to travel, especially beneficial for the environment as it means no effect on the carbon footprint.  Fashion brands and investors can participate in MVFW by buying digital plots to host digital events like fashion shows, concerts, and after-parties, whilst attendees can view the luxury designs with no tickets necessary – although something to note is that anyone interested must own an Ethereum wallet to purchase digital items.

But Metaverse Fashion Week isn’t limited to just fashion shows; Decentraland are hosting a fashion district, which will feature pop-up stores that are accessible through smartphones. In fact, a fashion district is currently being built within the digital platform of Decentraland, giving brands the opportunity to test out a virtual experience for their products in MVFW before diving into the platform’s district.

“We want to help the onboarding process and push creativity and show everyone what is possible. We do this to show the community and other brands, ‘Hey, Decentraland is a place for shopping, everyone is wearing cool clothes and brands can release on the platform.’ It’s a way of bringing more people to the platform and making it more compelling for users.” – Sam Hamilton, Creative Director of Decentraland Foundation.

Digital items can be purchased for attendee’s avatars through the event, as well as some collections including a physical element for guests to have the opportunity to buy clothing in the real world., The full line-up of brands taking part is yet to be announced, although Hugo Boss is one of the designers taking part - but it is expected that there will be many more recognisable brands joining MVFW. Ralph Lauren and Gucci have delved into the digital world previously due to having virtual pop-up stores on platforms like Roblox and Zepeto which are within the metaverse. Not only that, but brands like Balmain and Adidas have previously released NFT collections, and therefore it would be to no surprise if they participated in the fashion week.

"We want to help the onboarding process and push creativity and show everyone what is possible. We do this to show the community and other brands, 'Hey, Decentraland is a place for shopping, everyone is wearing cool clothes and brands can release on the platform.' It’s a way of bringing more people to the platform and making it more compelling for users." – Sam Hamilton, Creative Director at Decentraland Foundation.

What brands do you hope to see join the metaverse through the upcoming fashion week?
