Spotlight on: London Craft Week 2025

  • by Vivienne Austin

Where heritage meets sustainability — and craftsmanship leads the way.

At Scarlet Destiny, our ‘Spotlight On’ series casts a monthly light on the people, places and movements reshaping fashion through a more conscious lens. We believe in celebrating brands and initiatives that echo our ethos: a commitment to craft, responsibility, and slowing down in a world that asks us to speed up. This month, that light turns toward one of the UK’s most dynamic cultural fixtures: London Craft Week.

Since its founding in 2015, London Craft Week has grown into a city-wide celebration of creativity — a week-long programme showcasing the artistry, heritage and innovation that define great design. But more than just a calendar of events, the festival represents a powerful shift: a return to valuing how things are made, why they’re made, and who is making them. In a fast-fashion world, this shift is not just beautiful — it’s necessary.

Why London Craft Week?

Craftsmanship has long sat at the intersection of beauty and responsibility. At Scarlet Destiny, we believe the future of fashion lies not in mass production, but in intentional creation. And London Craft Week is a living, breathing case study in just that.

Here’s why we see it as a pioneer in sustainable fashion and conscious design:

A Celebration of Process Over Product
From weaving and embroidery to leatherwork and ceramics, LCW champions the labour of love behind every stitch, glaze and cut. It reminds us that true artistry takes time — and that in slowing down, we rediscover meaning in the making.

Diversity, Inclusion and Global Creativity
With makers from over 30 countries, the festival celebrates both local heritage and global perspectives. From Korean ceramics to Thai royal textiles, LCW breaks down borders and fosters cultural dialogue — a reminder that sustainability is as much about people as it is about the planet.

Revival of Endangered Crafts
By spotlighting techniques at risk of extinction, London Craft Week keeps rare crafts alive. This preservation of traditional knowledge aligns powerfully with Scarlet Destiny’s belief in safeguarding skill and story — not just trend.

City-Wide Discovery
Workshops, talks, and exhibitions unfold across every corner of London, from grand institutions to hidden ateliers. LCW encourages a “journey-of-discovery” approach — one that echoes our mission to help people shop and live with curiosity, care, and consideration.

What Not to Miss at London Craft Week 2025

Dates: 12–18 May 2025
Location: Across London
Looking to dive in? Here are just a few of the events we’ll be attending — and why they matter.

Secret Ceramics at Christie’s
12–16 May
An anonymous charity sale where you only learn the artist’s name after purchasing. This year’s works come from legends like Claudia Rankin and Kate Malone MBE, with proceeds funding youth access to clay studios across London. A beautiful fusion of art, anonymity and impact.

Why we love it: It’s art for good — giving young people from underrepresented backgrounds a creative voice through the transformative power of ceramics.

LCW Maker Demonstrations: Puppetry at the V&A
13 May
Award-winning puppeteer Oliver Hymans and rising star Ash Appadu showcase marionette craftsmanship — a rare and poetic skill. This live demo explores the line between performance and preservation.

Why we love it: It’s a literal handmade art — and a reminder that storytelling through craft is timeless and alive.

Illuminated Forms: Inside the Workshop of Jess Wheeler
14 May at And Objects
Step inside the studio of sculptural lighting artist Jess Wheeler. Expect metal shaping, patination, and live work on a new installation — all rooted in natural inspiration.

Why we love it: It’s raw, tactile, and deeply sustainable in approach — rethinking form and function with materials that endure.

The Craftsmanship of the Capucines Bag at Louis Vuitton
12–17 May
Witness the 250-step process behind the Capucines bag, handcrafted by seasoned artisans in France. Expect live demos and artisan Q&As at the brand’s Sloane Street boutique.

Why we love it: While luxury houses aren’t without critique, we admire when legacy brands open their doors to the process, not just the prestige.

Sacred Art from the Forest at Rebecca Hossack Gallery
12–17 May
From Aboriginal bark cloths to Balinese jewellery, this is a rare, respectful window into global heritage crafts that challenge Western art norms.

Why we love it: The gallery blurs the line between art and object — just like Scarlet Destiny, it uplifts the handmade and the often-overlooked.

Chud Thai Through the Ages: Thai Weaving & Identity
12–18 May at The Royal Thai Embassy
Explore Thailand’s textile evolution through rare garments, royal collections, and artisan demos. Highlights include a lecture by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari.

Why we love it: It’s fashion history told through fabric — and a tribute to craftsmanship as identity, resilience, and cultural pride.

Landscape of Materials at Hazel Gallery
12–18 May
Presented by Soluna Art Group, this exhibit blurs the boundaries between nature and design — bamboo made of metal, ceramics that resemble rock. Each piece reimagines material potential.

Why we love it: It’s a fresh take on form and sustainability — showing how craft can push limits while staying rooted in purpose.

Craft, Consciously

London Craft Week proves that luxury doesn’t have to mean excess — it can mean intention, integrity and innovation. In a fashion landscape flooded with speed and sameness, LCW is a reminder of what’s possible when we choose the slow, the skilled, and the sustainable. At Scarlet Destiny, we’re proud to align with values that put the maker first — and the planet close behind.
